Wicklow goalkeeper Mark Jackson kicked a 70 yard field goal at the IMG academy in Florida on Wednesday, exceeding the official NFL record held by Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens.
Along with Rory Beggan, Down's Charlie Smyth and former Connacht rugby player Darragh Leader, Jackson took part in the NFL Combine last month, where he earned himself an extended stay in Florida to attend an NFL Pro Day last week.
At his NFL Pro Day, Jackson successfully converted seven out of his ten attempts, showcasing his accuracy and distance.
US universities hold pro days to give NFL scouts the opportunity to check out potential recruits, with Jackson (25) earning a boost in the days that followed as he signed with renowned agent Rob Roche - a man who, coincidentally, also represents Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.
Jackson also tried out punting at the pro-day, with scouts impressed by both the distance and height of his kicks.
"Not only is he in incredible shape – he has an ultra fast leg,” said Conor Mangan of the Wicklow man.
From a Gaelic football perspective, Jackson is one of the highest scoring goalkeepers of all time, having kicked over 100 points in his career for Wicklow.
