Ballyboden say Crokes unable to ‘field a team’ for Dublin senior football League final

The Dublin senior football League Division One final between Kilmacud Crokes and Ballyboden St Enda's was postponed.

The game was due to take place in Parnell Park on Wednesday evening but was postponed at short notice. Having won their third successive Leinster club football crown on Saturday, when they defeated Nass, Kilmacud Crokes qualified for the All-Ireland semi-final, which takes place on January 6. Their opponents will be either Glen (Derry) or Scotstown (Monaghan) in that post Christmas fixture, as they aim to win back-to-back All-Ireland club championships. That game is a month away but Crokes still opted not to field in the Dublin senior football League Division One final. Ballyboden St Enda's said in a statement on Wednesday morning that 'unfortunately and regrettably, tonight’s Division One League Final is off, as Kilmacud Crokes have informed the County Board that they cannot field a team.' Given their status as the largest club in the country, with a reputed membership of 5000, the development raised plenty of eyebrows. Dublin GAA also issued a short statement, where they said that the match was 'called off.'
