The worst kept secret in the GAA was revealed to be true by Jim Gavin on Saturday evening.
The Dublin football manager confirmed that Jack McCaffrey will play no part in the Championship this summer, as he will be abroad due to work commitments.
News broke earlier this week that the medical student, who was named Player of the Year for 2015, will be absent for Dublin's defence of the Sam Maguire.
Gavin confirmed the news when speaking to Setanta Sports following Dublin's 2-14 to 2-10 victory over Cork in the Allianz league encounter at Croke Park.
The Dublin manager admitted it was a signifcant blow to lose McCaffrey, but respects and supports the half-back's decision.
