Galway hero Paul Conroy’s post-match interview was unapologetically heartfelt

Galway face Roscommon in the 2016 Connacht final but few expected them to make it that far.

The Tribesmen ended an eight-year drought by turning Mayo over, 1-12 to 0-12, at McHale Park this evening. Thomas Flynn grabbed the all-important goal but Paul Conroy's excellent point, soon after, put Stephen Rochford's men in a deep, dark hole. https://twitter.com/SportsJOE_GAA/status/744258358555742208 Conroy was magnificent throughout and was named Sky Sports' man-of-the-match. In a post-match interview, Conroy told the broadcaster:

"It hasn't really sunk in yet. "Look, we were not given a chance coming up here today."

It has been widely reported that a total of 52 club players across the county turned down the chance to train for this championship season under the current management. Conroy did not bother to veil his riposte to those players. He said:

"A lot of lads turned down the chance to come in. I don't know whether they were up for it or what their story was."

Conroy stressed that the Galwegians had 'a lot to work on' before their Connacht Senior Football Championship final against Roscommon, next month.
