Two points for the sideline cut?

Padraig 'Paw' Conway is having that all day long. Conahy Shamrocks were out in the Kilkenny Junior D League against Mooncoin on Sunday afternoon and the corner forward was making a statement. Just last week, the merits of sideline cuts earning an extra point was up for debate. Seamus Callanan was all for it while Henry Shefflin also agreed - with the caveat that wide balls from the line should be minus a point. That's no bother for the Conahy Shamrocks man. In front of a giddy Jenkinstown crowd, he stood over a sideline on the 45 and much to their surprise, he sliced a lovely one straight over the black spot.

Leinster MHC

The first round of the Leinster minor championship took place on Saturday and there were good wins for Kilkenny, Wexford, Kildare, Laois and Carlow. Billy Drennan was the star turn for the Cats, the talented young handballer hitting 0-11 for his county in their one point win. Wexford's superior goal threat was the difference in their victory over Offaly, with AJ Redmond, Cian Byrne and Luke Kavanagh getting in beyond the Offaly cover in O'Connor Park. Kildare's comprehensive win over Antrim bodes just as well for them as it does badly for the men from the Glens, and the same goes for Laois and Carlow who defeated Westmeath and Meath comfortably.

Football

TG4 were in Kildare for two SFC games and the sight of Daniel Flynn looking sharp will have Lilywhites dreaming. The Johnstownbridge forward sat out their entire League campaign, having spent the last few months in America and it will be interesting to see if he rejoins Cian O'Neill's squad for the championship. There are already no doubts as to whether he's good enough but his lively display at St Conleth's Park might just tempt O'Neill to go all out to get him back. Ulster MFC results

The gusty Ulster gales limited the attacking action in both Derry v Armagh and Monaghan v Antrim, but Cavan and Tyrone had no such problems in their games.
