Fewer games but more quality on TV this weekend for GAA fans

Some big upsets could be on the cards here.

There's less quantity but arguably more quality on the tube this weekend, as four GAA games are live to watch from your TV. First up the impressive looking Monaghan will be taking on a Don side that has been suffering with just as many off-field issues as it has, on-field. However, manager James McCartan has decided to remain at the helm, and if anyone can turn around this county's fortunes, then this iconic figure is the man to do it. There are serious question marks over Dublin after getting relegated from Division One, but many would still expect them to have the necessary firepower to fly through Leinster. Wexford will see this as their best ever chance to get one over their old foes, and finally get that long awaited win over the Boys in Blue. Sunday kicks off with the wee ball, as Galway play Kilkenny in the Leinster championship. Galway footballers got a huge win last weekend over Mayo, so the hurlers will now be looking to let the good times continue for the tribesmen. The All-Ireland champions are up next, live on BBC, and they face a stern test against a Derry side that has gone from strength to strength under Rory Gallagher. for the first time, in the better part of a decade, the Oakleaf county will be going into a game against Tyrone, with genuine belief and ambition, of snatching a victory.

2pm: RTÉ 2 – Galway v Kilkenny – Leinster senior hurling championship. 4pm: RTÉ 2 & BBC Northern Ireland – Tyrone v Derry – Ulster senior football championship. 9.30pm: RTÉ 2 – The Sunday Game.
