Bizarre refereeing decision during Cork v Dublin minor semi final goes viral

That was strange one.

A bizarre refereeing decision during Dublin's victory over Cork in the All-Ireland minor semi-final has gone viral on social media. The clip that has surfaced online shows Denise O'Mullane, the Rebels' corner forward, attacking the heart of the Dublin defence before being deliberately pulled down. Play was waved on, and after what looked like several opportunities to award Cork a free, it was Dublin who was given one instead. At this point in the match Cork were a point up, and there was only 90 seconds left to play, in which time Dublin raged to claw it back and get over the line.

The game itself was a fantastic one and a lot of credit needs to go to the capital who were seven points down at one stage, and fought right to the very end. Cork full-forward Seán Coakley converted a 42nd minute penalty and looked set to be leading his team to the All-Ireland semi finals. However, the Munster side would not score again for the remainder of the game, while the Boys in Blue went on the rampage. Fortunately for the Leinster champions, their opponents were unable to find a score on their last attack, and even though they finished the game with only 13 mens after half-back Ryan Mitchell received a second yellow, and centre-forward Luke O’Boyle picked up a black card, Dublin had secured their spot in the semi-finals.
