Dublin and Armagh accept huge fines for challenge game fracas that left Davey Byrne injured

It's probably not the best of timing ahead of an All-Ireland semi-final, but the Dublin and Armagh county boards have accepted the massive fines imposed on them after a challenge game fracas last month. Davey Byrne was seriously injured after an incident between the two sides in Glasnevin, with the player being treated for facial injuries after an altercation before the game even began. Dublin and Armagh both tried to play down the incident, but following an interview by Dubs boss Jim Gavin, the GAA decided to investigate what took place. The counties were brought before the Central Hearings Committee last night where, according to the Irish Examiner, both counties accepted that their players were involved in incidents that warranted punishment. It's understood that Byrne was also hit with an initial one-match ban which he has now served, while an unnamed Armagh player is also likely to face a one-match inter-county suspension when they return to action in the Allianz Football league next year.
