Umpire pushed over and referee smacked onto the ground in Derry GAA brawl

This sort of behaviour needs cracking down on.

For the second weekend running, Derry GAA has borne witness to ugly scenes on the pitch during a tense club championship clash. Last Saturday, Eoghan Rua (Coleraine) took on Ballinascreen in the Derry Senior Hurling Championship semi-final and both sides waded into each other after a spat between two players got out of control. This weekend, it was the Ballinascreen footballers that were left looking on as their opponents harangued the match officials. In the midst of the madness, an umpire was pushed to the ground and, even worse, a spectator barrelled onto the pitch and up-ended the referee. SportsJOE has been sent footage of the incident and GAA authorities will surely be studying these closely in the coming days. All hell broke loose and you really have to feel for the match officials here. Distressing stuff. This is not the last we will hear about this one. Shocking stuff.
