Could Dublin footballer Philly McMahon be the next Irish MMA star?

Philly McMahon has revealed he'd be interested in potentially emulating Conor McGregor... Kind of.

The Dublin footballer says he's a big fan of MMA, and would definitely be interested in giving the sport a try. "I think the most interesting thing for me is to go and do a sport where you've no back-up from your friends," McMahon said. "That's a big statement for anybody. To step into the ring and say 'it's me against you'. I think that's a great thing." The Ballymun Kickhams player says he boxed as a youngster and was introduced to MMA "probably six or seven years ago" by Owen Roddy, McGregor's current pad man, who rented a gym from McMahon. "It's one of those things that you'd love to do, to compete in it," McMahon said about stepping into the octagon. "But you wouldn't be able when you're playing. It interests me massively. Whether I'm too old when I finish my career, that'll be another question to answer." H/T Evening Herald.
