Most players need a bit of fire.

It could be a Sunday morning challenge match, it could be a county final but whatever game it is, GAA managers will get you riled up. They'll put the hair standing on the back of your head, they'll have you jumping out of your skin. They'll do anything to have their men ready to run through a brick wall. Some lads need this. They need a rollicking to get the blood pumping. Other lads like to stay calm, and they can still do that by blocking out the noise and gesticulations of their jumping mad man of a manager.

"These boys are looking down on us, boys. They strolled in there this morning, into our back yard and one of them had a smile on his face. They think we're useless," is a commonly used loaded gun by our GAA managers.

Either way, there's no real harm in a fired up manager trying to get his players wired to the moon. And then you've Ryan Giggs' 'motivational' speech to his Manchester United players. It was the last game of the 2013/2014 season. It was Ryan Giggs' last game in charge of Manchester United as caretaker manager. It wasn't a dead rubber. United had to win to secure a place in the Europa League for the following season. Lose and they'd be staring down the barrel of a season with no European football for the first time in 25 years. Ryan Giggs was also in the running for taking over the United reigns as their manager. So he would have been eager to make an impression. He would have been eager to stake his claims, right? What transpired was a speech that would put a player to sleep before it would motivate them.
