Cavan are looking at all possibilities for a new manager, not just the three being talked about

Rumours that the Cavan county board are looking to appoint a local manager are premature.

Talk had been mounting that the Breffni men had decided to stay within the confines of the county in order to replace the outgoing Mattie McGleenan, but that has now been denied. It was understood that three coaches were being touted as potential candidates to take over: Mickey Graham, Jason O'Reilly and Peter Reilly. All three of them would be viewed as viable candidates for the job given their wealth of experience between club and county set-ups. Graham has been coaching Longford outfit Mullinalaghta St. Columba's where he guided them to back to back county titles in 2016 & 2017. Jason O'Reilly was manager of the Cavan Gaels team that reached a first Ulster club final in 40 years, only to be defeated by Slaughtneil. Peter Reilly had a spell managing the county's u21 side, collecting back to back Ulster titles in 2013 & 2014. However, Cavan are not at a stage where they have narrowed anything down yet. County Vice-Chairman Paddy Sheanon explained where they are at within the process of hiring a new manager.

"Nobody has said that it has to be from within the county," Sheanon told SportsJOE. "I would say there is more than three candidates. "I don't know who they are, I don't even know if all three of them men are interested."

As it stands, Gerry Brady has appointed a sub-committee tasked with finding a new manager, but they have yet to meet up.

"All options are still open with regards potential candidates, there's no decision made whether we stay in house or go outside, it depends on what candidates become available and who is interested," a spokesperson said.
