Kerry goalkeeper Brendan Kealy steps away from inter-county duty

Kerry goalkeeper Brendan Kealy has quit inter-county football it has been revealed.
The Irish Independent is reporting that the 2015 All-Star is frustrated with a lack of game time and has opted to leave the Kerry panel. The 31-year-old has reportedly held talks with Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice where he informed him of his decision to leave the squad due to lack of game time. Kealy has been rotating with fellow Kerry goalkeeper Brian Kelly throughout the season with Kelly starting in goal for the Kingdom's latest match against Cork in the Munster Final.
However, Kealy was in between the sticks for Kerry's win over Dublin in the National League Final.
Fitzmaurice has previously stated that he intends to bring a third goalkeeper into the Kerry team with Shane Ryan and Shane Murphy now in a battle to take the number 16 jersey in Kealy's absence.
The newspaper also reports that Kealy is open to return to the Kerry panel in the future.Explore more on these topics:
