Another inter-county manager has picked up his P45 as Sheedy quits Longford

It's been a bad seven days for GAA managers

Last week Brian McIver and Peter Creedon stepped down after Derry and Tipperary's respective All-Ireland qualifer losses, and last night Eamon Kelly resigned as the Kerry hurling boss Now there is a fourth inter county vacancy after it was revealed that Longford boss Jack Sheedy has quit the county. The Dublin native finishes his term with the Midlanders after a two-year spell in charge that saw them promoted from Division four of Allianz league this season but hammered in the Leinster Q-final against Dublin. Despite wins over Carlow and Clare the county exited the All-Ireland series after 2-24 to 0-11 loss to Kildare. In a statement on the Longford county board website said that family commitments are given as the reason for his departure from the role.

"Longford GAA’s Executive Committee at its meeting last night were informed of the resignation of Jack Sheedy as Senior Football Manager. In his letter of resignation Jack noted the huge amount of time and commitment he had given to the role over the past 2 years which ultimately impacted on other areas of his life and for that reason Jack has decided to devote more time to his Family. Longford GAA’s Executive Committee thank Jack and his backroom team for their efforts over the past 2 years and wish them well in whatever role they decide to take up in the future."
