Darijo Srna is still grieving the loss of his father Uzeir Srna, who sadly passed away whilst the Croatia captain was playing against Turkey on Sunday. He was informed of the news after the game and attended the funeral on Monday.
But such is his sense of national duty that the right-back was determined to return to France to lead the side against the Czech Republic on Friday. In fact he saw the game as an opportunity to honour by taking the field in Saint-Etienne.
As the Croatian national anthem played prior to kick-off, the camera panned to Srna, who was moved to tears. It was an incredibly moving moment, and the viewers at home - and in the TV studio - were humbled by his player's fortitude.
