They took a risk. It backfired.

Sheffield United's last game of the season ended in home defeat to Scunthorpe. An underwhelming 2-0 loss saw the Blades consolodate 11th place in League One for their campaign's work and it's not where they should be. Certainly not where the fans want to be. Screen Shot 2016-05-08 at 22.24.48 So when former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins took his side on a lap of appreciation after the game, it could only have been expected that some of the supporters - those who bothered to stay behind - might not have been entirely happy. And it doesn't help that, a) the manager is on Twitter and, b) he tweets about local basketball teams on game day. https://twitter.com/TheNigelAdkins/status/729202805181980672 Couple that with a loss and an underperforming season and you have short shrift for a professional football manager looking for likes on social media. https://twitter.com/Pete_18337/status/729250262637019136 Fans don't need anything else other than misery after losses - ask Joleon Lescott. https://twitter.com/adzylwalker/status/729209900685996032 And things started to escalate. https://twitter.com/LexieDud/status/729294504302415872 This is the internet, Nigel. In case you didn't realise. https://twitter.com/ChedwynE/status/729295797720891392 We're waiting, Nigel. https://twitter.com/twi773rm4n/status/729262369071878147 At least he had some well-wishers... https://twitter.com/joef1889/status/729293454912724996 And those who didn't need to seek him out on Twitter told him directly after the game during the lap of unappreciation. https://twitter.com/MellorFootball/status/729311763527798784 Sheffield Sharks are yet to comment on the situation.
