Poor Rafa. Even his dismissal as Real Madrid manager lacks dignity.
With the football world waiting with bated breath on Monday, all eyes were on the Bernabeu as many expected Rafa Benitez to be relieved of his duties.
But if the former Liverpool manager was hoping for a quick and painless execution, he was sorely mistaken. His professional future had to take a backseat to jelly and ice cream.
Guillem Balague was on Sky Sports to report that Benitez knew of his sacking, and that Zinedine Zidane would be replacing him. But the official announcement had to wait until a kiddies party was over.
"Rafa Benitez has been sacked. He has been told about it. Everything is prepared for the announcement," explained Balague. "The only reason why it hasn't happened yet is because the area that Real Madrid want to use for the press conference is being used for a kids' party..."
