Tim Sherwood adores a bit of hyperbole.

The Aston Villa manager has already claimed that he wouldn't accept €80m for young winger Jack Grealish so overexaggerating is kind of his thing. And now Tactics Tim has claimed that Brendan Rodgers was so impressive in the 2013/14 season that almost saw him deliver Liverpool's first top flight title in 24 years that he could have gone on to manage Real Madrid the next year. Cardiff City v Liverpool - Premier League "After that season, they finished second. If they'd won the league, could they have kept hold of Brendan Rodgers?" he said. "They would have tried everything - and they did. He signed a new contract after that. "All of a sudden, he doesn't turn into a bad manager, it's fine margins. We might have seen him at Real Madrid. "Why wouldn't we have seen him there? He'd have won the English Premier League with a team who hasn't won it for God knows how many years. "He would have been the hottest property in football. A week is a long time in this game, let alone a year. Because they got so close, it intensifies the pressure. He's paying the price for overachieving a couple of seasons ago." Rodgers is a better manager than the #RodgersOut hashtag would lead you to believe but having him at the helm of the Bernabeu might be a bridge too far. Baby steps, Timmy boy.
