With Sunderland's 3-0 win over Everton enough to keep them in the Premier League next season, Norwich (who won 4-2 on the night against Watford) and Newcastle were relegated.
Given the rivalry between the two clubs, the knowledge that Sunderland's win had confirmed Newcastle's relegation made it even sweeter for supporters of Sam Allardyce's side. But bizarrely, football fans from up and down the country appeared to be amused at the situation Newcastle's manager found himself in.
Only appointed as the club's manager in March, Rafa Benitez faced a tough task to preserve Newcastle's status... but this didn't stop people poking fun at the Spaniard.
The fact that Benitez had started the season in charge of Real Madrid (who have since reached a Champions League Final), was pointed out by... well, just about everyone.

Anyone that's ever watched their side go down will know that this is a sad day for supporters of Norwich and Newcastle. Although Benitez's misfortune was the source of amusement for many, some Newcastle supporters called for him to stay on.
