Steven Gerrard personifies class with salute to retiring Daniel Agger

News of Daniel Agger's retirement came as something as a shock.

The 31-year-old, who played for Liverpool for almost nine years, had moved back to first club Brøndby in his native Denmark in 2014. But on the eve of Euro 2016, Agger announced that he had called time on his playing career, thanking fans for their support in the following tweet. https://twitter.com/DanielAgger/status/740837967300792320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw As shown by some of the replies Agger's tweet prompted, the Dane was rated highly during his spell at Anfield. Further evidence of this came by way of a tribute from former team-mate, Steven Gerrard. Now with LA Galaxy, the former Liverpool skipper shared an image of himself and Agger during their days at Liverpool, praising his composure and quality.

High praise from a man that many regard as the club's greatest ever player. Agger featured 232 times for Liverpool, scoring 14 times for the club. Not a bad record for a player that's suffered more than his fair share of injuries down the years.
