Stephen Kenny to see out remainder of Euro 2024 qualifying campaign

Stephen Kenny will see out the remainder of Ireland's Euro 2024 campaign.

The Republic of Ireland manager's position has come under intense scrutiny this past week as Ireland's hopes of automatic qualification for the Germany tournament fell by the wayside. A number of high profile analysts such as Didi Hamaan, Brian Kerr, Richard Dunne, Damien Delaney and Richie Sadlier have all been heavily critical of Kenny and the Irish team on the back of their losses against France and Netherlands in the last international window. Kenny's record of just ten wins and fifteen defeats in 36 international games has given plenty of cause for concern but, as has been confirmed by Jonathan Hill at an FAI briefing on Thursday morning, Kenny will see out the remainder of the campaign. This won't come as a surprise to Kenny, who said in his post-match interview with Tony O'Donoghue that he was expecting to be kept on by the association. "I absolutely do (feel I'll stay on as manager). We have got two matches in October and we've got Greece and Gibraltar in October before heading to Amsterdam. After that, it's certainly not my decision. We will have to see if we have that play-off in March which is still a chance." He will also be in charge for a friendly game against New Zealand. "Once these matches are played," said Hill, "And as with the women's world cup campaign, we will then conduct an in-depth review of the campaign in its entirety, and after the final friendly match against New Zealand.
