Man United, however, were almost embarrassed by their Championship opponents. The Red Devils were leading 3-0 after an hour and cruising towards another Wembley showdown with Man City.
Coventry, however, managed to take the game to extra-time after scoring three times. The Championship side then almost won the tie in the final minute of extra time, only for the goal to be ruled offside after a VAR check.
Man United won the subsequent penalty shootout to avoid a humiliating cup collapse.
After the match, Keane was heavily critical of his former club. The Irishman noted the muted celebrations of the United players, and said that Ten Hag's team are 'hard to like.'
"For the United players and supporters, they weren't really going over the top with their celebrations because they know they were lucky," Keane said on ITV.
"They had the game won at 3-0 and were almost embarrassed to win at the end. They are in the cup final and got the job done.
"Every time I see this United team, I don't like what I see. They are hard to like."
"They just play in moments, we mentioned it after the game," Keane continued.
"You go on about leadership and character - I don't see any of this in this United group.
"It's game-management when you are 3-0 up, you don't give a Championship club any sort of hope they can get back in the game.
"But that's what they do, they give up chances and goals, and we've seen it all season so I don't see why we are that surprised. My goodness they rode their luck again."
