Ray Wilkins in intensive care after suffering suspected heart attack

Ray Wilkins is in intensive care after suffering a suspected heart attack on Friday.

It has been reported that Wilkins suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, London, where he was placed in an induced coma. The Sky Sports pundit, who also contributes to talkSPORT, is said to have hit his head after he lost consciousness. "He’s in hospital, he’s had a cardiac arrest and is in intensive care," Wilkins’ wife, Jackie, told The Daily Mirror. "He is not in a good state at all, I’m afraid. He’s critically ill. The cardiac arrest led to a fall which has meant he’s had to be put in an induced coma. It’s very, very bad." Wilkins had struggled with poor health for several years but was believed to be doing better after undergoing a successful double heart bypass operation last year. The former Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan midfielder remains a popular figure in football and well-wishes have been flooding in for Wilkins, who turned 61 in September. Ray’s son Ross Wilkins told the Daily Mail: "I hope everyone can respect the family’s wishes over privacy at this very difficult time for us. It’s touch and go whether my father will get through this."
