Remember the days when you were 20 and turning your nose up at over €4.6m a year?
Raheem Sterling isn't just a fine footballer but he's a clever little bugger as well, using Liverpool's plight and his rise as a perfect pivot point to hold the club ransom over more money on his contract.
The Telegraph are reporting that Sterling and the club are "nowhere near an agreement" after the English international is believed to have turned down a new contract of £70k a week.
The lightning attacker has been a bright spark in an otherwise dull season at Anfield and, with Brendan Rodgers having already splashed the cash to bring the like of Mario Balotelli to the club, Sterling is sitting in a relatively strong position where his list of demands look increasingly more reasonable.
It's hard to get away from the fact though that he just turned 20 on Monday and he's acting like those sort of sums are an insult to someone enjoying their third full season in the Premier League. With things headed on a downward trajectory at the minute though, they can't afford to call their starlet's bluff and you get the feeling that Raheem knows that full well.
His message is clear...
