Gerard Pique says he used the world’s dullest chat up line to woo Shakira

Is this really how easy it is?

If you struggle talking to girls and breaking the ice, you could be tempted to use a cheesy chat up line. You know the ones: 'You must be tired, because you've been running through my mind all day'. Well if you're even vaguely tempted to go there, don't. It's not cool. But Barcelona star Gerard Pique is living proof you don't have to go out all guns blazing with the shit one-liners. The Spain international has spoken about how he used possibly the world's dullest chat up line when he first got together with singer Shakira in 2010. https://twitter.com/newsfcb/status/786692639747891200 Pique had met the Colombian singer before the 2010 World Cup in the video for the song "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" He managed to get hold of her number and then made his move with the most mundane and quintessentially Irish line ever...he asked her about the weather. He said in an interview in Spain:

"She arrived in South Africa before us because she was singing at the opening ceremony. I sent her a text asking how the weather was because we were arriving in a few days. "This is a typical stupid question that you write and normally get a response like, ‘it’s cold, bring a coat’. "But the she writes a long paragraph, detailing the change in temperature throughout the day. "I thought, ‘Jesus, this is not normal’. It was in those details that I could tell there was affection."

Pique then said that Spain's World Cup victory that year was basically down to Shakira.

"We started messaging each other throughout the tournament, but the only chance I would have of seeing her would be at the final because she was performing the closing ceremony. "I told her that if I had to reach the final to see her I would do so. And that was the second time we met, after the World Cup Final.

So this is the secret then? Just ask about the bloody weather? This is where we've obviously been going wrong all these years. Although it probably helps being a dashingly-handsome and filthy rich international footballer.
