Paul Scholes has declared the Manchester United 'circus' open amid the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford. The 37-year-old is thought to be keen on a move away from the Red Devils and is frustrated at the lack of progress United have made in the transfer window, with the Portuguese international also wanting to play for a club in the Champions League.

Ronaldo, who returned to United last summer, enjoyed a successful personal campaign last season, despite the Red Devils recording their lowest ever Premier League points tally. The former Real Madrid man has missed two days of pre-season training as a result of a family issue and it remains to be seen if he will join up with the first team squad ahead of the start the club's upcoming tour of the Far East. Scholes hit out on social media about Ronaldo's situation, suggesting that the 'circus' was about to begin. He wrote on Instagram: "Let the circus begin." Scholes' former teammate Gary Neville also urged United chiefs to come to a decisive and swift decision about Ronaldo's future.

Ronaldo 'upset' that he'll now earn less than £400,000 a week
