Ole is back in the game

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is set to perform working duties in England later this week, moving on from his unsuccessful application to be named caretaker Manchester United manager.

The Norwegian was involved in face-to-face talks with Red Devils hierarchy earlier in January, before ultimately losing out to former colleague Michael Carrick.

United have excelled in the two weeks since Carrick took charge, beating Arsenal and Man City in successive Premier League fixtures, to supercharge their push for Champions League qualification.

While Solksjaer will have been disappointed to have missed out on the biggest role in English football, he is still set to return to work in football this week.

Solksjaer may not have secured another managerial role quite yet, but he will be working during this week's Champions League fixtures, for UEFA as a "technical observer."

As listed on UEFA's website, the technical observers are tasked with: "Monitoring UEFA's club competitions in depth, with stats and video assistance enabling them to deliver detailed reports on the latest developments in coaching which are shared among the footballing community to give a dynamic account of the state of the game."

Ole will be in attendance during Liverpool's clash with Qarabag at Anfield on Wednesday.

Currently placed 4th in the Champions League table, the Reds will be looking to bounce back from Saturday's surprise defeat to Bournemouth by securing all three points against the Azerbaijani outfit.
