Donald Trump will officially take office as the 45th President of the United States on Friday when he is inaugurated as Barack Obama's successor.
He will have his hands full with the biggest job in America from this weekend, but he almost got his tentacles into one of Britain's biggest football clubs just four years ago, when he came close to buying Glasgow Rangers. The 70-year-old property developer has Scottish heritage on his mother's side, and owns the Turnberry golf resort on the Ayrshire coast. And in 2012 he looked "seriously" at buying Rangers, before Craig Whyte acquired the troubled club, subsequently taking them into administration. At the time a Trump source told The Sun: "We looked seriously and walked away.
"It just did not make sense to us, although they are a great club.
"We hope someone steps in and builds the team again."
Without Trump's investment, Rangers were placed into administration and were forced to start life again in the Scottish third division.
