After months and months of Man City, Frank Lampard and New York FC maintaining that the midfielder would not be extending his loan spell at the club, Man City have shocked nobody by announcing that the midfielder is extending his loan spell at the club.
Lampard's six month loan was due to expire last night before he returned to New York for the start of the new franchise's debut season, but Man City confirmed last night that they have secured the player until the end of the season.
Lampard has scored six times for City in 17 appearances, and despite his 36 years, has been a vital cog in their recent good run.
His paperwork has been cleared by the Premier League, meaning he is available to manager Maunel Pelligrini for today's meeting with Sunderland at the Etihad.
However, a New York City FC supporters group reacted angrily to the extension of the player's loan, saying they had been misled by the club.
The Third Rail said in a statement: "We would like to publicly denounce City Football Group’s and Frank Lampard’s decision to extend his loan to Manchester City until the end of the Premier League season.
"Many fans, including our members, decided to support the team, committed to season tickets, and bought merchandise under the impression that Frank Lampard would be playing for New York City Football Club, not Manchester City. Many of those fans are rightly outraged by this decision, and we support any course of action they take to voice their discontent over this decision."
