Matt Ritchie apologises to Steve Bruce for bust-up in training

Ritchie has apologised to his manager for comments made during the argument on Tuesday.

Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie has apologised to manager Steve Bruce after the pair were involved in an angry exchange at the club's training ground earlier this week. Ritchie is said to have been furious at comments made by Bruce after Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Wolves last Saturday, where it was suggested the 31-year-old had not passed on information to his teammates from the touchlines shortly before Ruben Neves' equaliser for the visitors. The incident was magnified when Jamie Carragher took a look at it during Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. Newcastle's players had reportedly been given 48 hours off after the Wolves game, and were said to be annoyed that it was scrutinised on television before they had the opportunity to discuss it as a team. Ritchie's frustration saw him argue with both Bruce and first team coach Steve Agnew after reportedly refusing to go to the manager's office on Tuesday morning. After details of the exchange were leaked to a national newspaper, Ritchie is now said to have apologised to Bruce in front of the rest of his teammates, with the matter now considered closed by all involved. Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, full-back Jamal Lewis and striker Joelinton were also criticised by Bruce for their own errors during the game at St James' Park. Newcastle currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, three points above Fulham in the relegation zone. Their next game sees them take on 19th-place West Brom Their preparations for the game have not been helped by injuries to key players including top scorer Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
