Martin Cox disappointed by Manchester City players

Sean Cox's brother Martin has said that he is both shocked and disappointed by Manchester City players.

The club denied allegations that the team were mocking either Sean Cox or the Hillsborough disaster in a video after they won the Premier League title. Liverpool fan Sean Cox recently came out of a coma after he was attacked before the side's Champions League semi-final first leg with Roma last year. A City spokesperson said on Wednesday that any suggestion that the lyrics relate to Sean Cox or the Hillsborough tragedy is entirely without foundation but Martin Cox has said that his brother's attack was the first thing he thought of when he heard the chant.

“My first reaction was I was very disappointed,” he told talkSPORT host Jim White. “It’s so close to home for ourselves with Sean, so we’re shocked now to be honest with you. Any song like that, these players are media trained in this day and age and are role models for children. “I don’t understand why the first thing they want to do, right after they win the league title, is sing about Liverpool, first of all, and then actually sing about fans getting battered in the streets. “Surely they know that the song is inappropriate.”

Cox was pictured at the Liverpool and Ireland legends match last month to help raise funds for the Seán Cox Rehabilitation Trust. The Trust will be responsible for distributing monies to meet the costs of Sean’s ongoing and future care and rehabilitation, and costs borne by his family related to his rehabilitation.
