And this morning it has been confirmed by the club that an ex-playing legend will have a similar honour bestowed upon him.
Bobby Charlton is widely regarded as one of the best footballers of the last 100 years, and the 1966 World Cup winner is now set to have the current ‘South Stand’ renamed in his honour as the ‘Sir Bobby Charlton Stand’.

Charlton is regarded as an icon at the club, having joined in 1953, scoring a record 249 goals for the club.
Now a director at the club Charlton will most likely have had to approve the renaming.

Wayne Rooney is only five goals behind Charlton's total and must surely be hopeful of having some part of the famous stadium named after him at some stage.
