Ahead of their crunch tie in Germany against Wolfsburg, the heat was very much on Manchester United.

In fact, according to a report in the Daily Mail, United were said to be unhappy with the temperature in the away dressing room at the Volkswagen Arena. Although it was said to be no warmer than it usually is for Bundesliga fixtures, United complained about what the Mail describes as 'stifling' conditions. Many of the United players were reportedly uncomfortable with the toasty environs in the dressing room and approached management to get the thermostat turned down a notch or two. A 3-2 defeat, coupled with PSV Eindhoven's victory over CSKA Moscow, meant that Louis van Gaal's side tumbled out of the Champions League and into the Europa League. United officials are said to be unhappy at the Premier League for an unhelpful schedule of fixtures in and around Champions League weeks. It is a gripe that does not really stand up, however, as United have had all Saturday afternoon kick-offs before European fixtures this season. Clutching at some short, flimsy straws, some might say.
