Liverpool to pay classy tribute to Irish fan Sean Cox ahead of Stoke City match

Liverpool will pay tribute to Irish fan Sean Cox who was attacked near Anfield before the first leg of the club's 5-2 Champions League semi-final win over Roma on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old from Meath is still in critical condition at Walton Neurological Centre after he was the victim of an unprovoked attack by Roma fans while waiting outside of the famous Albert Pub just over 260 feet from the stadium. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp paid his respects to Cox on Friday by wearing a special tri colour badge during his pre-match press conference and now the club will pay tribute to former St. Peter's Dunboyne GAA chairman by posting the message 'Sean Cox, You'll Never Walk Alone' on the advertising boards at Anfield before Saturday's match with Stoke City. https://twitter.com/davieslfc/status/990155028626395137 Klopp said that the attack on Cox highlighted the ugly side of football but that the incident should never have happened. "The game on Tuesday showed the beauty of the game, what happened before was ugly face," the manager said.

"When I heard, I can't describe my emotions. It should never happen. It's unbelievable. All our thoughts & prayers are with Sean Cox and his family. "It should never have happened. It shouldn't have before and shouldn't happen in the future."
