Those who found this season's kit too plain will surely be pleased by this new feature.
The red might spark some controversy, but it's not the first time they've added a sprinkling of red to the jersey. As recently as 2010/11, their adidas kit had a red collar. That kit will be forever associated with the arrival of Fernando Torres and his 903-minute goal drought.
The shorts and socks will remain blue and white respectively and the new kit is due to be released at the end of May.
