La Liga threaten to take Fifa to court over dispute regarding match to be played in USA

There is huge opposition to La Liga's plans.

This week Fifa joined the Spanish FA in the opposition to La Liga's plans to move Girona vs. Barcelona to the United States, with Fifa president Gianni Infantino saying league games should be played in their own country. “The Fifa council of course discussed this matter and this proposal to host an official game of La Liga outside of Spain, in Miami in particular,” Infantino said after the meeting in Rwanda. La Liga announced plans to move the Catalan derby to Florida in August as part of their 15 year deal with American company Relevant Sports, but has faced serious opposition from the player's association as well as the Spanish FA, and now Fifa. La Liga have now threatened to take Fifa to the court of arbitration for sports (CAS) if they persevere in their attempts to block the move. A La Liga spokesman said: “Should we receive official notification from Fifa that they prohibit the match, we will take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport urgently.”
