Jamie Vardy’s Skittle-sorting dreams have become reality with this brilliantly pointless machine

'I had a three-litre vodka ­bottle at home I would put loads of Skittles sweets in,' Jamie Vardy writes in his autobiography.

'Once one batch had fully dissolved, I’d top it up with more — only the red or purple sweets because I don’t fancy the orange, green and yellow ones.'  If, like Vardy, you're quite selective about which colour Skittles end up in your home-brew batch of Skittles vodka, you'll appreciate how time consuming sorting the little sugary-shelled sweets can be when using nothing more than your bare hands. Thankfully, some bright sparks have now managed to fill the gaping Skittles-sorting machine void in all of our lives. As shown by the (incredibly satisfying video below), there is now a machine capable of sorting Skittles (or M&Ms) by colour. The sweets are simply poured into a funnel at the top and pass through colour sensors within the machine. The sweets are then distributed into different colour grouped dishes below the machine. It's all very clever stuff. Largely pointless, but very clever none the less.
