Jack Byrne has left Manchester City for a Championship side on permanent deal

Jack Byrne has a new club.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has left Manchester City for Wigan Athletic on permanent basis, signing a three and a half year deal with the Championship side. https://twitter.com/ManCity/status/826583353503674368 Byrne joined City from Dublin schoolboy side St Kevin's Boys, and spent five years at the Premier League club. He failed to make a senior appearance, but was highly rated by underage coaches, including Patrick Vieira. The 20-year-old midfielder spent last season on-loan at Dutch side Cambuur, and the first half of this season on-loan at Blackburn Rovers, where he made seven appearances. Byrne will hope to get a run in the first-team, after a frustrating spell with Blackburn. Although Wigan aren't as glamorous as Manchester City, this still represents a good move for the player, who needs to play as much as possible at this stage of his career.
