Man United line up French replacement as Harry Maguire fee agreed with West Ham

Harry Maguire looks set for a move to West Ham, with the club agreeing a fee with Manchester United for the England international. The Hammers had initially bid £20m for the centre-back but that was quickly rebuffed. Maguire had made it known, through his representatives, that he was looking for a team playing in the Champions League but there were no bites from Manchester City, Arsenal or Newcastle United. Everton had also expressed an interest and one option had been a cash plus player deal, with United interested in their Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana. The Athletic is also reporting that a fee of £30m for Harry Maguire has been agreed by West Ham and Manchester United, with Sky Sports adding that coming to a deal of personal terms 'will not be a problem' for the player. West Ham are also close to tying up a deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, for around €35m, with the club also looking at either James Ward-Prowse or Scott McTominay to add midfield depth, and leadership. As for Manchester United, they are considering extending veteran defender Jonny Evans from a month-long deal to keep him there as defensive cover for the season. Their big defensive play, though, is for a 23-year-old defender from Nice. The club has been linked with a €25m move for centre back Jean-Clair Todibo. Born in Cayenne, in French Guiana, Todibo has played U19 and U20 for France and was called into their senior side for the recent European Championships qualifier against Ireland. He was on the bench, at Aviva Stadium, but did not come on. French outlet RMC Sport reports that 'constructive discussions' have taken place between Nice and United. Earlier in the summer, Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi said the club was open to the idea of transfers for Todibo and teammate Khéphren Thuram.
