Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala was on the small passenger aircraft that disappeared from radar on Monday evening, the French civil aviation authority has confirmed.
The plane went missing over the English Channel, close to the Casquets lighthouse, 13km north-west of Alderney. A search is currently underway for the aircraft, with Guernsey police confirming shortly after 9 am on Tuesday that no trace had been found.
The flight, which had one other person on board, left the city of Nantes in northern France on Monday night with Cardiff its intended destination.
Sala, who was announced as Cardiff's record signing over the weekend, had been playing for Nantes in Ligue 1 this season.
A post shared to his Instagram account on Monday showed him saying goodbye to his Nantes teammates ahead of the move.
