A hat-trick for Federico Chiesa, a couple more for Giovanni Simeone and one each for Luis Fernando Muriel Fruto and Marco Benassi saw the home side run out 7-1 winners at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Aleksandr Kolarov's goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Roma, who also had Edin Dzeko sent off in controversial circumstances with just under 20 minutes still to play.
Footage of the former Manchester City striker appears to show him spitting at the referee Gianluca Manganiello after he failed to award Roma a free-kick. The official swiftly responded by showing him a red card.
