Eamon Dunphy used his opening salvo of RTE's Euro 2016 to launch a scathing attack on Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane.
Dunphy, who ghost wrote Roy Keane's autobiography in 2002, hit out at the Corkman for his comments about Aiden McGeady and other members of the Ireland squad following the 2-1 defeat by Belarus in Turner's Cross on May 31.
"I think Roy Keane's press conference afterwards was a mistake in which he hammered Aiden McGeady and he referenced a few other players as well," Dunphy said.
"I think that wasn't the way it should be.
"And then I think Martin O'Neill's deeply unfortunate remarks at the Cork Opera House were a grave disappointment.
"The players won't be affected by that [O'Neill's comment], but the Keane stuff can impact on the squad.
"We have to be charitable, perhaps, and hope that there's no negatives there.
"I have a feeling of unease about those remarks Roy Keane made. I don't think he should be criticising the players in public. He's the assistant manager. I don't think he should have made such a big deal of Aiden McGeady.
"It is inconceivable that the assistant manager of England or France or Spain would give a press conference like that. Utterly and totally inconceivable.
"It's inconceivable that they would give a press conference at all. It is inconceivable that they would give a press conference where they would make comments about a player, and others, that were very, very negative."
