David Moyes warns Gary Neville not to be a loser

If you want some obvious advice on how not to fail as a football manager, seek out David Moyes.

The former Everton and United manager Moyes was handed his P45 by Real Sociedad last month after a poor run of results, and he has warned Gary Neville that he must hit the ground running at Valencia. Moyes told the Telegraph that his heightened profile due to his playing career at Manchester United will not allow the club to give him more leeway with results.

"From my experience there is not one single piece of advice I can give Gary beyond the obvious: win games." "And neither do I think Gary will necessarily be afforded more time because of who he is and the profile he has."

He added that the modern game doesn't afford managers a lot of time to find their feet at a new club, and he reckons Neville will have a short amount of time to make an impression.

"In football people are making judgements quicker than ever. For good or bad. It is almost instant. So he has to look at it as maybe 25 games or so to prove himself to be successful."

Neville will officially take charge of the La Liga outfit on Monday, who will be buoyed by securing winning a  1-1 draw against world footballing behemoths Barcelona at the weekend. His first game will be a crucial Champions League tie with Lyon on Wednesday, which Valencia must win to have a chance of progressing.
