An agreement was reached in the late hours of Monday morning
Benfica have reportedly reached an agreement with
Liverpool for the sale of their heavily sought-out striker, Darwin Nunez, for an estimated fee of £85.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan is set to join Merseyside in a deal that could be worth up to €100m. The striker is expected to sign a six-year contract at Anfield.

confirmed the agreement on their club website, writing: "In the early morning hours of this Monday (0:44 am), Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool FC for the sale of all rights to the player Darwin Nunez, for the amount of €75m."
The transfer fee is said to be worth around €75m and the statement went on to reveal that with bonuses and other add-ons, the "global amount could reach the amount of €100m."
There is a potential €15m in appearance-related add-ons and €10m between the player and the selling club, depending on team success,
according to the Liverpool Echo.
Darwin Nunez will become Liverpool's record signing.
Nunez had previously been linked with Liverpool's rivals Manchester United, but the club is thought to have
pulled out of the race over the price tag and were unwilling to be drawn into a bidding war.
The Uruguayan striker, who netted
26 goals and half a dozen assists in this year's Primeira Liga campaign, as well as another six goals in Benfica's Champions League campaign.
Nunez also scored twice against Klopp's side last season. The transfer deal would see the club break Liverpool's previous transfer record of £75m for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
