Legia Warsaw were playing arguably the biggest game of their season against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Facing Madrid at the famous Bernabeu would be a treat for most fans, and you'd imagine that it would be enjoyed as such.
But some Legia supporters were obviously just in the Spanish capital purely to have a tear up.
Security was beefed up around the city, with police in riot gear drafted in in anticipation of the 4,000 fans making the trip to Spain, including 300 'Ultras'.
It looks like the travelling Polish fans started off relatively good natured, with legions of them joining in some choreographed mass chanting, like we saw during Euro 2016.

But it appears to have turned ugly very quickly on the streets of Madrid with Ultras fighting pitched battles against police.
Cameras filmed dozens of Legia "fans" facing off against Spanish police near the ground. Missiles were thrown at officers who were armed with batons and some charged down the hooligans on horseback.

But one particularly brutal moment appeared to see several officers cornered in a park by the Ultras who piled in on them.
Two of the officers look like they were floored by blows during the trouble during which a number of arrests were made.

The Polish side are already in hot water with Uefa this season over crowd trouble.
The club was charged over crowd disturbances and racist behaviour after their 6-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund last month.
