Diego Costa's often bad-tempered spell at Chelsea looks set to be coming to an end as the club looks to rebuild this summer, and a report in today's Sunday Times suggests getting rid of the Spain striker could actually realise a whopping profit.
It is claimed that a pair of clubs in the Chinese Super League are ready to battle it out for Costa, with bids in the region of €90million expected to be forthcoming. That's more than double the €38million Chelsea paid Atletico Madrid for the forward two years ago.
While he played a huge part in Chelsea's title-winning season last year, Costa have developed a reputation for inconsistent displays and poor discipline as the Blues plummeted down the table this time around, making the prospect of a profitable sale an appealing one.
The reports suggests Costa could earn around €10million net annually in China, but former boss Diego Simeone is also keen on bringing his former charge back to the Vicente Calderon. The Atletico manager wants to be reunited with Costa, and while the La Liga club cannot match the offers from China, they are still prepared to offer around €45million.
