A Champions League-chasing Bundesliga side has emerged as a serious contender to sign Shamrock Rovers starlet Michael Noonan.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, TSG Hoffenheim are in advanced talks to secure the signature of the 17-year-old forward.
Romano also revealed that Celtic remain firmly in the race, having submitted a bid within the past 24 hours. Hoffenheim, however, are eager to push the deal over the line as soon as possible.
Further reports suggest Shamrock Rovers are unwilling to be rushed into a decision.
Irish Independent journalist Dan McDonnell has reported that Rovers recently rejected a €1 million bid from Hoffenheim, while subsequent coverage indicates the club value Noonan closer to €2 million.
With Hoffenheim currently occupying one of the Bundesliga’s Champions League qualification places, the German side can offer a clear pathway to elite European football, which is without doubt a significant factor in the negotiations.
Noonan’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. He was one of Ireland’s standout performers at the U17 World Cup and made European history earlier this year by becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer in a UEFA club competition with his strike against Molde in the Conference League.
After leaving St Patrick’s Athletic to join Shamrock Rovers, Noonan scored six goals in 30 appearances last season, showing maturity beyond his years.
Still only 17, the Ashfield College student turns 18 next July. With Hoffenheim pushing hard and Celtic circling, Shamrock Rovers face a pivotal decision on one of the brightest talents Irish football has produced in years.
