Australian club drop big hint about Michael Carrick’s future

Michael Carrick is staying at Manchester United, according to Perth Glory's CEO.

Peter Filopoulos said he was rebuffed in his attempt to sign the 34 year old midfielder, who's contract expired at the end of last season, with no official word on it being renewed. Richard Garcia, the Perth captain, played with Carrick at West Ham United, and made him best man at his wedding, seemingly acted as the intermediary. However, Filopoulos told Four Four Two that the midfielder has been offered an extension to his contract at Old Trafford. "It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia’s relationship with Michael," Filopoulos said.

"Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United. "We understand he’s now secured an extension with Manchester United so that's off the table."

Carrick has been with United since 2006, making 421 appearances in total, and 41 last season as the team won the FA Cup. Neither United nor Carrick have confirmed yet whether a new deal has been signed.
