Hull City make final transfer decision on Ireland’s Aaron Connolly

Another bump in the road for Connolly.

Hull City have made a final decision on the transfer of Ireland and Brighton striker Aaron Connolly, and have decided not to make his loan move permanent. The Irishman had been playing for Hull on loan this season, and initially was very impressive, but his performances weren't enough to warrant a permanent move. Liam Rosenior took the gamble to take Connolly from Italian second-division side Venezia in January in an attempt to revive his career. The 23-year-old endured a disappointing time in Italy, and has struggled to find the sort of form that saw him burst onto the scene in the Premier League several years ago. The forward bagged two goals against QPR in one of his first appearances for the club, and things seemed to be going to plan, but Connolly picked up an injury that ultimately ruled him out for the last 15 games. The Republic of Ireland striker was once a key instrument in Stephen Kenny's attack, but a dip in performances for both club and county saw him drop down to the u21 side. Now with injuries derailing his career further, the young striker will be hopeful that a club will take a chance on him this summer and he can get his career back up and running. It is unlikely that he would see much game time if he were to stay at Brighton, particularly as his fellow Irishman, Evan Ferguson is occupying the number 9 role and playing consistently.
