Tadhg Furlong’s post-match interview came to an abrupt, funny end

Patrick McCarry

“Thanks Jack!”

Jesus, after the performance Tadhg Furlong put in against Australia, you’d think Jack McGrath would have been showering him in petals.

Furlong was absolutely immense in Ireland’s 26-21 victory over the Wallabies, at AAMI Park, and scored a crucial try in the second half.

The Leinster prop made 12 carries, four tackles, cleared out countless rucks and bulled over for a crucial try and lasted 71 minutes of a must-win game.

Local broadcasters Channel 10 awarded Furlong man-of-the-match and he was put up for post-game interviews, on the pitch, with both them and Sky Sports.

During his chat with Sky, Furlong spoke of Ireland upping their levels of intensity and working hard for each other. He also got in the obligatory Wexford shout-out:

“Sydney [next week] is the series decider, isn’t it? It’s a big game for both teams. And you’ve seen the support here tonight, with the Irish fans up behind the goals in particular were amazing at times.

“I’m from Wexford, down the south of Ireland. I know a lot of people there and I know there’s been a big, mad rush for tickets. The support has been incredible and, at times, they carried us through the match there. I suppose we’re looking forward too… “

With that, off camera, McGrath showed up to splash water over his teammate’s face and bring an end to the interview.

“Thanks Jack,” exclaimed the tighthead prop.

Can’t get no respect.
